January 1, 2016 (Timu):
The New Year is upon us. Last night we did something I’ve wanted to do for a long time – climb up on our roof to stargaze and philosophize. After dark, I took mattresses, pillows, blankets, and hot chocolate up there and then surprised Amber and the girls with what we were doing. We stayed up there for an hour or so, talking and looking at stars, satellites, and meteors. At the end we prayed for our new year, and just as we finished praying, an awesome shooting star went streaking across the sky, big and bright, with a blazing tail of fire. We all felt like it was a sign that our prayer was heard.
Every year is significant, but 2016 promises to be especially so for us, with a much hoped-for change on the horizon. But we are all resolved to squeezing as much life as we can out of our remaining days in Timu, Uganda…Africa….
2015 was an amazing year, both in its difficulties and its successes. I don’t expect 2016 will be fundamentally any different.
