June 20, 2015:
I read this morning a piece by Teilhard de Chardin in which he gives his reasons for remaining Roman Catholic despite strong desires to “drop everything.” I suppose the main belief behind his loyalty is that the Catholic church is the truest church, which for him would mean the leading line of noospheric evolution. And naturally he would want to remain with that!
Perhaps I have an advantage, then, of freedom. I believe the universal mystical church, the pan-denominational (and perhaps pan-religious) ‘body’ of Christ is the true church, the leading line of humanity’s evolution. I will remain fiercely loyal to that group of souls, but ironically then, it is a loyalty to no one organization, no one denomination, no one religion.
The mystical faith cuts across all outer forms.
